About James W. Banahan
James W. Banahan is the founder and president of Banahan Communications, Inc. After graduating from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, he and his new bride moved first to Los Angeles, and then to Phoenix in 1979. Before starting his own firm, Jim worked first in the paper industry, then as the first employee of a United States Football League franchise in Chicago. As the League came to an end and his marketing skills honed, he made the transition to 5-Star Resort Marketing and Advertising in Phoenix.
He started Banahan Communications, Inc. as an advertising agency that catered primarily to physicians’ practices and hospitals in 1986. Once the physicians he served were convinced that advertising and marketing actually worked, they began to refer him to other physicians and hospitals throughout the country. He began consulting at hospitals nationwide, helping them to grow their reputations and revenue. He established connections with business associates, physicians’ networks, healthcare systems, and good friends in the process. Jim is currently using the relationships he forged over the lifetime of his career to offer unique business opportunities to hospitals and healthcare systems internationally, bringing executives from other countries to the United States to learn how to run hospitals more efficiently and effectively, for example.
Since 2006, James Banahan has been acutely aware of how healthcare, and the healthcare marketplace is changing, and he, and the marketing firm he built, continues to adapt to the changes that are occurring. He believes the market is the expert and that he is not the “expert”. He’s attuned to the market and believes that the market will tell you everything you need to know about how to position a product or service, expand your business regionally, nationally, or internationally, or find niche markets for specific healthcare or healthcare-related products.
Jim is most proud of his family, and an avid golfer and boating enthusiast, Jim is passionate about people, making new connections, creating momentum, and developing strategies to help people position their products or services and achieve success beyond their wildest imagination. He loves to exceed expectations.
Jim is excited about what’s on the horizon in healthcare. Most recently, he created a distribution network that provides health benefits to lower income individuals and families throughout the United States. And becomes equally excited when listening to hospital executives from the Middle East converse with executives and hospital administrators from a regional health system about next generation healthcare.
He believes that if you listen to the market, and build relationships, good things happen.
